The town (Municipality) of Denia is located in Alicante Province in the Communidad of Valencia, only a 50-minute drive from Alicante airport, with excellent road links with close access to the AP7 motorway and the national road, N332 which runs from Valencia to Almeria.
Denia is separated from Javea by the Montgo mountain (national park), you can take the scenic road over the Montgo or on the N332.
Denia has both a commercial port and a private marina with 540+ moorings, from where you can take a ferry to the Balearic islands such as Ibiza and Majorca. Unlike so many coastal towns, Denia remains a bustling town all year round with a large variety of amenities and facilities. The main street in Denia is called the Marques de Campo, where you find numerous cafes and restaurants from where you can watch the world go by.
Denia has over 20km of coastline, from the rocky beaches of Las Rotas to the fine sandy beaches Las Marines, with front line restaurants and bars, and a wide variety of watersports, from windsurfing, kitesurfing, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming. Every year the beaches of Denia are awarded the European Blue Flag for their water quality and clean fine sand.
There are many fiestas in Denia, the most famous being the Valencia-wide Fallas celebrations, culminating in the “nit del foc” fireworks display and La “cremà” which sees the burning of the huge colourful statues (or ‘Fallas’) that have been lovingly built throughout the year. The main local Fiesta ‘Festa Major’ is in July. This incorporates everything from religious celebrations and gala parades and, of course, fireworks.
There are many landmarks to visit, from the 16th-century castle, the once residence of the Marquis of Denia, with its incredible views across Denia, to the hermitages of Sant Joan, Santa Paula, and Santa Lucía, constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries as well as the 18th-century church of the Asunción; the 17th-century Atarazanas (dockyards) and the cloister and church of San Antonio.
Denia also has its own 18-hole golf club, located very close to the town, at La Sella designed by José Maria Olazabal.
